Treat
Yes, cupcakes are the biggest trend ever. Why? Because they're adorable, sweet, and sized so that you get one all to yourself. Our cupcakes are light and moist, and may come topped with a swirl of light Italian Meringue Buttercream, silky Bittersweet Chocolate Ganache, Classic Cream Cheese frosting, and more. The cupcake pictured is a favorite, the Rookie's Root Beer Float cupcake, which is a chocolate-root beer cupcake topped with vanilla buttercream with a cherry on top. Mmmm.
$2.50 each

This hand-sized tart is topped with plums, but depending on the season our frangipane tarts might be topped with apples, peaches, grapes, pears, cranberries, or blueberries. A flaky, all-butter crust surrounds the frangipane, which is a classic filling made with ground almonds.

Inspired by the many savory breads that I ate while in Italy this fall, this focaccia roll is rich with the flavor of olive oil, and topped with thyme-roasted red onions and shaved, roasted potatoes. These are wonderful by themselves, and eaten out of hand, or use them for a tasty sandwich.

Two moist, devil's food cakes sandwiching a marshmallow frosting. Just like a generation of Grandmothers used to make, from Maine to Pennsylvania. These are available at City Market, in the refrigerated pastry case, and as a Sweet Thursday boxed delivery.

My Dad always kept a box of "Mother's Oatmeal Cookies" in a desk drawer. These cookies are sort of like that, but made with a full flavored mix of whole grains -including barley, oat, and whole wheat flours- and glazed with cinnamon icing. These cookies are seriously delicious. Thanks to the talented pastry chef Kim Boyce- I adore her new "Good to the Grain".
One dozen cookies: $15

This free form tart is made with a flaky, rye flour pastry dough sprinkled with a crunchy layer of cinnamon sugar. Slices of firm and tart Empire apples are pan-caramelized before baking, enriching their flavor.
